"Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that aside from the UK, Microsoft's Xbox 360 is not proving popular amongst European consumers."
During an interview with San Jose Mercury News, Fils-Aime said the Xbox 360 is only selling in one European country: UK.
Microsoft is expecting to hit their worldwide sales figures of 12 million units by the end of June 2007. This worldwide figure includes North America, of course, so the number simply shows the console growth - not the specific area of the world the growth is most powerful.
Xbox 360 is much a North American console and popular with "western gamers." The Nintendo Wii is definitely a worldwide success, thus far, and Reggie probably feels comfortable talking down the Xbox 360.
With a rumored European barrier along with a problem selling 360 consoles in Japan (slightly better off with Blue Dragon's sales in the country) it comes as no surprise that Wii is "trouncing" the Xbox 360 product in other areas.
Remember, sales figures for a few quarters on a console who's lifetime is in years will not determine a winner. Sales over time will determine that, and Microsoft has plenty of time to succeed. On the flip side, Nintendo has plenty of time to fail.
We, at Techdiversions.com think the struggle for top worldwide console can only make the products better and thus, make consumers happier.
On with the competition!
