Wii Nyko Charge Station Review

Thinking about picking up a Nyko Charge Station? Hopefully this will give you more idea on what this little charge station can do and has to offer.

The biggest question to be before we ordered the device was 'how' does it work? For example, does it have external chargeable batteries instead of a battery enclosure, does it charge by plugging in? Will it stop charging and shut off?

The Nyko Charge Station has a few neat features and a design that looks as if it was created by Nintendo themselves. I am slightly amazed they were able to get away with a design that looked so much like the trademark Wii look and feel.

Here is our little charger doing its job with a look at the included battery hardware and cover:

Nyko Charge Station - Charging

The LED turns bright blue (like the Wii itself) when it is charging your Wii remote. Notice the nice rubber backing for the battery compartment. This enhances the grip of the wii controller very well. If you're prone to sweaty hands this may buy you another hour of gameplay before destroying a TV or someones face.

Nyko Charger Wii Battery

This shot shows you the stock batteries on the inside of our second Wii remote. The new rubber battery compartment is shown along with the battery pack. You can indeed see the two AA rechargeable batteries but they do not come out. So, in essence, this is an all-in-one battery.

Nyko Wii Remote Charger Battery Pack Installed

Here we see the installed battery pack. It slides in tight and replaces both the batteries without a problem. Their are metal springs that keep contact on the pack so it fits snug and makes a complete connection. It almost looks like it belongs there, no?

Battery pack installed and closed

Once you close the housing with your new enhanced battery door you'll not even notice the controller was without such a neat charger. The rubber door has a slight box cut into it that exposes a metal contact (for the charge station). You cannot use your old door - you can toss it or pack-rat it away for good.

Battery contact exposed

This contact is setup to match the Wii Nyko Charge Station contacts on the back of the device. When you lie your wii controller into the station it will make contact and one of two color LED's will light: Green or Blue. Green means you're fully charged and ready to game. Blue means you've got some charging to do.

Charge requires controller to be off

The charger will not charge a controller that is synced and gaming. Notice the second controller is synced and thus the charge won't take. Let it fall out of sync or turn off the Wii to remedy that.

Nyko Charger Fully Charged Wii Remote

The green light means go! Time to game! Hope that helps you decide to pickup a Nyko Charge Station. The only downfall, it only charges two Wii controllers at a time ;-)
