Wii Demand: The Struggle

"We're having difficulty coping with demand because of the recruiting power of the Wii. It's even more powerful than anyone had guessed. We're confident the strategy is working, we saw it with the DS, this is what happens when you reach an expanded audience and keep the regular gamers."

That's the quote from Nintendo Europe's senior marketing director, Laurent Fischer. The Nintendo Wii is selling well - very well. But, producing enough consoles to meet this demand is a challenge.

"We are still struggling to deliver the right numbers of hardware to cope with demand," said Fischer. "We're planning to increase the production capacity but it's not something that can be done in a couple of days. We have to be patient."

If there is one personality flaw in most gamers, it's patience. We all want instant gratification, plenty of supply and fun now not later.

For those of us that have gotten the Nintendo Wii, we don't even realize that the product is still hard to find. Very similar to when we first got a high speed network connection at home, within moments we totally forgot dial-up existed.

Hopefully TechDiversions will have Wii's soon!
